About This Cocktail
A long, grapefruit-led riff on the julep, built directly over crushed ice. Cynar brings its earthy artichoke bitterness as a low note beneath Amuerte Black Gin, while fresh grapefruit and Amalfi lemon lift the whole composition skyward. Grapefruit bitters sharpen the citrus edge, and a generous bouquet of mint releases its aroma as the ice melts through the drink.
Ingredients
Per Cocktail
- 15 ml Cynar
- 30 ml Amuerte Black Gin
- 80 ml Fresh grapefruit juice
- 10 ml Amalfi lemon juice
- 1 dash Grapefruit bitters
- 5 Mint leaves
Decoration
- Mint leaves / mint tops
Glass
- Longdrink Nude, packed with crushed ice
Method
Build the Cocktail
- Wash the grapefruits thoroughly before use
- Squeeze the grapefruits and pass the juice through a fine sieve
- Combine all ingredients directly in a longdrink glass packed with crushed ice
- Swizzle briefly with a barspoon to integrate the flavours
- Top with a crown of mint leaves and tops
Clap the mint gently between your palms before adding it — this releases the essential oils without bruising the leaves into the drink. Build the mint crown high and tight so the nose meets it first when lifting the glass. Always serve with a short straw, positioned close to the mint, so every sip draws the aroma through.
